PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have waited eight years to claim a season series over the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Sunday afternoon, they finally did it, powered by a vintage performance from left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. The veteran struck out nine batters over seven strong innings, allowing just two runs and five hits, as the Diamondbacks took the series finale 4-2 at Chase Field.

Rodriguez, now 11-4 on the season, was sharp from the outset. He came into the game after a rare shaky start his last time out, but quickly regained his command. The only blemishes were a run-scoring single by Andy Pages in the third and an RBI triple from Kyle Tucker in the sixth that cut Arizona's lead to 4-2. But Rodriguez never wavered, finishing his outing by retiring the last four batters he faced.

The offense gave him early support. Ketel Marte, in his 10th season with the Diamondbacks, launched a two-run homer off Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski in the first inning, sending a line drive into the back of Arizona's bullpen. The blast pushed Marte past 600 career RBIs, a milestone that underscores his consistency in the desert.

Wrobleski, who entered with an 11-4 record, has been struggling of late. Over his previous two starts, he had surrendered 12 runs and eight homers in just 10 1/3 innings. The trend continued Sunday. After the Marte homer, Wrobleski compounded his problems in the second inning. With runners on base, he fielded a sacrifice bunt and made a throwing error that allowed a run to score. Gabriel Moreno followed with a run-scoring double, extending the lead to 4-0.

Wrobleski's day ended after 3 1/3 innings, charged with four runs on six hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. The Dodgers bullpen held Arizona scoreless the rest of the way, but the damage was done.

The victory was Arizona's seventh in the season series against Los Angeles, giving them a 7-6 edge and clinching the season series for the first time since 2018. It was a significant achievement for a Diamondbacks team that has often played second fiddle to the Dodgers in the NL West.

Earlier in the weekend, the Dodgers managed to snap a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win in 10 innings on Saturday. But Sunday's loss meant Los Angeles has now lost three consecutive series for the first time since Aug. 29 to Sept. 7, 2025. Despite holding the best record in the NL West, the Dodgers are showing signs of vulnerability.

Kevin Ginkel earned his first save of the season, working a clean ninth inning. The Diamondbacks now turn their attention to a three-game home series against the Colorado Rockies, while the Dodgers head home to face the Kansas City Royals, with left-hander Tarik Skubal (7-6, 2.81 ERA) making his Los Angeles home debut.
