The running back market experienced a major surge last week, as three star players landed massive contract extensions. The Atlanta Falcons kicked things off by signing Bijan Robinson to a three-year, $75 million deal. The Colts quickly followed, rewarding Jonathan Taylor with additional lucrative seasons in Indianapolis. But the biggest news came on August 6, when the Detroit Lions and Jahmyr Gibbs agreed to a three-year contract that could be worth up to $75.75 million, with $51.5 million fully guaranteed.

Gibbs, despite missing the postseason, was one of the most dynamic players in the NFL in 2025. He rushed for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns and added 616 receiving yards with five more scores. The Lions made a bold move by letting David Montgomery walk in free agency, breaking up their iconic "Sonic and Knuckles" duo and anointing Gibbs as their unquestioned bell-cow back.

This shift in Detroit's backfield leads directly to today's quiz. Even though Gibbs started only four games in 2024, he finished tied for the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL that year. That feat puts him in elite company, and now it's your turn to test your memory. The challenge: name every player who led the league in rushing touchdowns for each season from 1990 onward.

The list reads like a who's who of NFL history. It begins in 1990 with a tie between Derrick Fenner (Seattle) and Cleveland Gary (LA Rams), each with 14 touchdowns. Barry Sanders led in 1991 with 16, then Emmitt Smith dominated the early 1990s with 18 in 1992, 21 in 1994, and 25 in 1995. Terry Allen notched 21 for Washington in 1996, followed by a tie between Karim Abdul-Jabbar and Terrell Davis (15 each) in 1997. Davis also led outright with 21 in 1998, and Stephen Davis hit 17 in 1999. Marshall Faulk posted 18 in 2000, Shaun Alexander had 14 in 2001, and Priest Holmes erupted for 21 in 2002 and 27 in 2003. LaDainian Tomlinson took over with 17 in 2004, Shaun Alexander's 27 in 2005, and Tomlinson's historic 28 in 2006, then 15 in 2007. DeAngelo Williams led with 18 in 2008, Adrian Peterson with 18 in 2009, Arian Foster with 16 in 2010, LeSean McCoy with 17 in 2011, and Foster again with 15 in 2012. Marshawn Lynch and Jamaal Charles tied at 12 in 2013, Lynch and DeMarco Murray tied at 13 in 2014, and a four-way tie at 11 in 2015 (Devonta Freeman, Jeremy Hill, Adrian Peterson, DeAngelo Williams). LeGarrette Blount scored 18 in 2016, Todd Gurley 13 in 2017 and 17 in 2018, Derrick Henry and Aaron Jones tied at 16 in 2019, Henry alone at 16 in 2020, Jonathan Taylor at 18 in 2021, Jamaal Williams at 17 in 2022, Raheem Mostert at 18 in 2023, a three-way tie in 2024 (James Cook, Jahmyr Gibbs, Derrick Henry each with 16), and Taylor back at 18 in 2025.
