The Shasta County Sheriff's Office arrested a Shasta Lake man over the weekend, accusing him of sexually abusing a teenage child over the course of several years. The suspect, 56-year-old Bradley Robert Hewitt, was taken into custody early Sunday morning following a brief manhunt that began the night before.

As the investigation continued, detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Hewitt with lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, oral copulation with a person under 14, and continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Just before 2:08 a.m. on Sunday, deputies received information that Hewitt had returned to the residence. Officers quickly responded and found him on the premises, placing him into custody without incident. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) assumed responsibility for the case and conducted a follow-up investigation, which led to additional charges being submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office.
Hewitt was booked into the Shasta County Jail on an expanded list of charges: oral copulation with a victim under 10 years of age, oral copulation with a person under 14, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, and continuous sexual abuse of a child. The MCU detectives requested an enhancement of his bail, which was granted by a judge. Hewitt's bail is now set at $1 million.
He is scheduled to appear in Shasta County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday for arraignment. The case has drawn attention from local law enforcement, who stress the importance of protecting minors and holding offenders accountable. The sheriff's office has not released additional details about the relationship between Hewitt and the victim, but the investigation remains active.
