ATLANTA — The Braves kept their mid-summer momentum rolling, extending their winning streak to six games with a 4-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. Behind a pair of solo home runs and a dominant start from Grant Holmes, Atlanta took control early and held on late.

The night began with a reminder that the Braves' front office had failed to add another frontline starter at the trade deadline the day before. But Holmes, who has been a steady presence in the rotation, made that omission seem less pressing. Over six scoreless innings, he scattered five hits, walked one, and worked around an error by second baseman Ozzie Albies to keep the Marlins off the board. His ERA dropped to 3.67 as he improved to 7-4.

The offense gave Holmes all the support he needed in the second inning. Albies, leading off the frame, jumped on the first pitch from Marlins starter Ryan Gusto and sent it over the right-field wall for his 19th home run of the season. It was a quick strike that set the tone.

The Braves added insurance in the seventh. Facing reliever John King, Austin Riley connected on a 433-foot blast to left-center field, a two-run shot that extended the lead to 3-0. First baseman Matt Olson had a strong night at the plate, going 2-for-3 and also getting hit by a pitch.

Dylan Dodd entered in relief with a runner on in the seventh and immediately induced a fly ball and a ground-ball double play to preserve the shutout. The Marlins finally broke through in the ninth against closer Raisel Iglesias, who allowed two runs. With runners on first and second and two outs, the Braves put the game away when catcher Drake Baldwin threw out Jakob Marsee attempting to steal third base.

Marlins starter Ryan Gusto pitched a season-high six innings, allowing just one run on Albies' homer while striking out five. He dropped to 0-3. Miami had won six of their previous seven games before Tuesday's loss.

The Braves have now won 10 of their last 12 home games since the All-Star break, and their pitching depth continues to shine. The series continues Wednesday with Bryce Elder (7-6, 3.84) facing Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez (5-8, 3.44).
