ARLINGTON, Texas — Pete Alonso wasted no time making an impact for his new team, launching two home runs and driving in four runs to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the Texas Rangers 10-5 on Sunday. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Orioles, who had been mired in a scoring drought, plating just three runs over their previous four contests.

Alonso, who signed a free-agent contract with Baltimore in December after spending seven seasons with the New York Mets, connected for a two-run shot in the second inning that caromed off the left-field foul pole. The ball was estimated at 409 feet, leaving the bat at 109 mph. Two innings later, he crushed another two-run homer to left-center field, this time off reliever Jordan Montgomery. The 27th multihomer game of Alonso’s career marked his first such performance in an Orioles uniform.

The Orioles’ offense, which had been stymied in the first two games of the series — both 2-1 losses — erupted for five runs in the first two innings against Rangers starter Kumar Rocker. Colton Cowser, a Texas native, belted a solo home run in the fifth inning, and Tyler O’Neill added a two-run blast in the seventh. Baltimore’s bats pounded out 12 hits, with Alonso, Cowser, and O’Neill combining for seven RBIs.

Rocker lasted just three-plus innings, surrendering six runs — five earned — on seven hits and two walks. The right-hander had allowed only five total runs in his previous three starts combined. Montgomery, making his first major league appearance since September 2024 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, threw 79 pitches over four innings, giving up three runs on six hits, including two homers. He had missed the 2025 season after Tommy John surgery and signed with Texas as a free agent in mid-February, activated off the 60-day injured list on Friday.

Texas mounted a brief rally in the third inning when Brandon Nimmo, a former Met, launched a three-run homer off Baltimore starter Cade Povich. That cut the Orioles’ lead to 5-3, but Baltimore answered with two runs in the fourth and never looked back. Povich lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, but the bullpen held firm. Yaramil Hiraldo, making his third appearance of the season, tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his first major league victory.

The Orioles improved to 57-61, still two games out of the American League wild-card race. The Rangers, now 59-59, saw their four-game winning streak end but remain in possession of the final AL wild-card spot and sit second in the AL West.

Baltimore will travel to Minnesota for a Monday game, sending right-hander Dean Kremer (1-4, 5.93 ERA) to the mound against Twins left-hander Trevor Rogers (7-7, 4.20). The Rangers head to Los Angeles for a series against the Angels, with left-hander MacKenzie Gore (6-9, 4.55) opposing Angels lefty Reid Detmers (3-8, 4.12).
