The son of a wrestling legend is quietly carving his own path in All Elite Wrestling. Steven Borden, the 25-year-old son of Sting — who retired from in-ring competition at AEW Revolution 2024 — is now widely believed to be signed with Tony Khan's promotion, according to a report from Fightful Select published Tuesday.

Sources within AEW indicate that Borden, who has been a regular participant in dark matches leading up to both "AEW Dynamite" and "AEW Collision," is considered under contract. His most recent dark match took place on August 8, ahead of an episode of "AEW Collision," where he secured a win over veteran Ortiz. That victory followed a series of dark matches on Saturday shows and before Dynamite tapings, signaling a steady integration into the company's developmental pipeline.

Borden's first dark match for AEW occurred in December 2025, when he defeated Kiran Grey at the special episode "Dynamite: Winter is Coming." Since then, he has been quietly building experience, working behind the scenes while the company evaluates his progress.

Tony Khan, AEW's President and CEO, has been open about his interest in Borden's growth. Speaking in February, Khan said the company was "working on developing him as a pro wrestler for AEW" and emphasized that it was a "huge priority" for him and everyone in the promotion. The investment in Borden reflects both the respect for his father's legacy and the belief that the younger Borden has potential to contribute to AEW's roster.

Borden's first public appearance in an AEW setting came at Revolution 2024, where he and his brother Garrett appeared alongside their father during his retirement ceremony. The two brothers were dressed as different versions of Sting — one as the classic surfer-era Sting, the other as the darker Crow-era Sting — a visual tribute that resonated with fans.

His professional wrestling debut, however, happened outside of AEW. In October 2025, Borden competed at an ACW event, teaming with JD Drake in a loss against AEW star Darby Allin and Killer Kross. The following month, he made his singles debut in DEFY Wrestling, defeating Kiran Grey once again.

Garrett Borden, the younger of the two brothers, is also training to become a professional wrestler. Fightful Select reported that Garrett is on AEW's radar, but they could not confirm if he has signed a contract. Both brothers have been involved in the wrestling industry in various capacities, with Garrett occasionally appearing alongside Steven at events.

For now, Steven Borden remains in a developmental phase — learning the craft, working dark matches, and building a foundation that could one day lead to a televised debut. The shadow of his father's legendary career looms large, but the early signs suggest AEW is willing to give him the time and resources to find his own identity in the ring.
