MILLVILLE — A quiet Sunday morning turned deadly as police discovered two people shot to death on a residential street in this southern New Jersey community. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a Millville woman and a Vineland man were both found dead from gunshot wounds, marking the latest violent incident in a region that has seen sporadic gun violence over the past year.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., officers from the Millville Police Department responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 800 block of North High Street. Upon arrival, they found Ashley Brown, 32, of Millville, and Andy Steven Brazill, 32, of Vineland, both unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. Their identities were released later that day after family notifications were made.

The investigation is being handled jointly by the Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. Detective Emilio Santiago has been assigned as the lead investigator. Authorities have not yet made any arrests, nor have they publicly identified any persons of interest. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and officials are still working to determine the sequence of events.

“We are in the early stages of a thorough investigation,” a spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office said. “We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.”

Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots but declined to speak on the record, citing fear of retaliation. The area, a mix of older homes and newer developments, is typically quiet. Residents described the victims as familiar faces in the community, though investigators have not yet established a connection between Brown and Brazill beyond their presence at the scene.

Autopsies are scheduled to be performed by the Cumberland County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Ballistic evidence has been collected from the scene, and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.

This is the third homicide in Millville this year, and the second involving multiple victims. The city, with a population of roughly 28,000, has experienced a slight uptick in violent crime over the past two years, according to local crime statistics. Community leaders have called for increased police presence and youth outreach programs to address the root causes of violence.

The Prosecutor’s Office is urging anyone with information to contact Detective Emilio Santiago at 856-506-4093. Anonymous tips can be submitted online through the CCPO tips portal at ccpotips.com.
