ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays, owners of the American League's best record, staged a late-inning comeback Monday night to salvage the final game of a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, winning 7-6 at Tropicana Field. Pinch-hitter Jonny DeLuca delivered the decisive blow, a two-run single in the seventh inning that capped a rally from a two-run deficit.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with four lead changes. Tampa Bay's offense, which had been stifled in the first three games of the series, erupted for three home runs. Yandy DĂaz started the power display with a solo shot. Ryan Vilade added another, and Jorge Mateo crushed a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth inning to put the Rays ahead 4-3. It was Mateo's first home run since joining the Rays.

Baltimore answered quickly. Pete Alonso tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run. Then, in the sixth, Christian Encarnacion-Strand delivered a two-run blast, giving the Orioles a 6-4 lead. Encarnacion-Strand finished the night with three hits and four RBIs, continuing his torrid stretch. Earlier, Coby Mayo had launched a 468-foot home run in the second inning off Rays starter Shane McClanahan, who was making his return from the injured list.

McClanahan, reinstated Monday, struggled with command. He allowed the massive homer to Mayo and was lifted with one out in the fourth inning after surrendering three runs. Manager Kevin Cash chose not to push the left-hander in his first start back. Reliever Casey Legumina entered and allowed both inherited runners to score on a single by Encarnacion-Strand, but the damage was limited.

The Rays' bullpen held the line after that. Cam Booser struck out the side in the seventh inning, earning his first win in a Tampa Bay uniform. The comeback began in the bottom of the seventh. Jonathan Aranda singled off Orioles reliever Yennier Cano to drive in a run, cutting the deficit to 6-5. Junior Caminero then beat out an infield single, loading the bases. With left-hander Josh Walker on the mound, DeLuca stepped to the plate as a pinch-hitter and lined a single to center field, scoring two runs and putting the Rays ahead for good.

All-Star closer Bryan Baker took over in the eighth and recorded the final five outs, striking out two and not allowing a hit. The save was his 35th of the season, the most in Major League Baseball.

The Orioles, who entered the series holding the third American League wild-card spot, saw their record fall to 61-64. Despite the loss, they had won the first three games of the set and remain in contention. The Rays, meanwhile, continue to lead the AL standings.

Up next, Baltimore returns home to host the New York Yankees on Tuesday, with right-hander Shane Baz facing lefty Carlos Rodón. Tampa Bay will host the Toronto Blue Jays, sending right-hander Nick Martinez to the mound against José Soriano.
