MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers, leading the majors with the best record, demonstrated their offensive firepower once again Thursday, jumping out to a six-run first inning and holding off the Seattle Mariners 7-4 at American Family Field. The win sealed a series victory for Milwaukee, which took two of three from Seattle, including a jaw-dropping 22-0 shutout two nights earlier that tied the modern-era record for the largest shutout.

Garrett Mitchell and Gary Sánchez set the tone early, each smashing two-run doubles during the first-inning barrage. Mitchell, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, also launched a solo home run in the eighth inning, a 420-foot blast to center field off reliever Jhonathan Díaz. Sánchez, meanwhile, got the Brewers on the board with his double, and Joey Ortiz added an RBI single. A double from David Hamilton capped the six-run rally, giving Milwaukee a commanding lead before many fans had settled into their seats.

Mariners starter George Kirby (8-10) endured a nightmare first inning. He walked the leadoff batter and then surrendered six hits, leaving the mound after just 3 1/3 innings. Kirby allowed six runs on nine hits overall, a stark departure from his usual form. The Brewers' own starter, Robert Gasser, also struggled to find his rhythm. Staked to a massive early lead, Gasser lasted only 3 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on four hits. Manager Pat Murphy pulled him mid-at-bat after Gasser fell behind in the count to Randy Arozarena.

Seattle clawed back into the game in the middle innings. Brendan Donovan delivered a two-run double, and Dominic Canzone followed with an RBI single in the fourth inning, cutting the Brewers' lead to 6-4. But Milwaukee's bullpen shut the door from there. Chad Patrick (7-4) threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Trevor Megill worked a perfect ninth inning, retiring the side in order to earn his 23rd save in 25 opportunities.

Mitchell's eighth-inning homer provided an insurance run, making the score 7-4. The outfielder's performance capped a remarkable series for Milwaukee, which has now won seven straight home series. The Brewers' offense has been relentless, scoring 29 runs in the three-game set against Seattle.

For the Mariners, rookie shortstop Brock Rodden continued his impressive debut, singling in the second inning. He has now collected a hit in each of his first six major league games, a bright spot in an otherwise tough series.

Looking ahead, the Mariners open a home series Friday against the Chicago Cubs, sending right-hander Emerson Hancock (6-7, 3.35 ERA) to the mound against lefty Matthew Boyd (8-2, 4.02). The Brewers, meanwhile, host the Atlanta Braves in a marquee matchup featuring right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (12-5, 1.75 ERA) against Braves left-hander Chris Sale (12-8, 2.16 ERA).
