The fairways saw fierce competition Thursday as five area high school golf teams gathered for a non-conference showdown. When the final putts dropped, Hoopeston stood atop the leaderboard with a commanding team score of 167, but it was Iroquois West that carved out a solid second-place finish at 181, fending off Milford (182), Watseka (191), and Donovan (202). St. Anne, with only three golfers on the course, did not post a team score.

Iroquois West’s success was anchored by Brody Mueller, whose round of 42 placed him among the top three individual performers of the day. Mueller’s steady play kept the Raiders in contention, and his teammates provided crucial support. Malachi Ark carded a 45, while Liam Hethke and Ashton Ehmen turned in rounds of 46 and 48, respectively. The collective effort was enough to hold off a charging Milford squad.

Milford, however, boasted the day’s standout player. Jackson Johnson delivered a dazzling 35, the lowest score of the entire meet. His performance was a masterclass in precision and consistency, but the team could not fully capitalize. Joey Bushnell added a 46, Isaac Schaumburg shot 50, and Coby Brown finished with 51. The Bearcats' depth proved slightly thinner than Iroquois West’s, leaving them in third by just a single stroke.

Watseka’s hopes rested on Parker Cluver, who fired a 43—good for a top-four finish overall. Jack Hutchinson and Andrew Snowden both came in at 47, while Jax Holohan rounded out the scoring with a 54. The Warriors’ fourth-place showing reflected a mix of strong individual bright spots and room for collective improvement.

Donovan, finishing fifth with a 202, saw Jayden Mottin lead the way with a 47. Hunter Adams shot 50, Noah Klecan posted 51, and Waylon Webster finished at 54. The Wildcats struggled to find the same rhythm as the front-runners but showed flashes of promise.

St. Anne’s incomplete roster meant they could not compete for a team score, but the three golfers who did play gained valuable experience on the course.

The meet underscored the competitive balance among area teams, with individual brilliance—like Johnson’s 35 and Mueller’s 42—shining through. For Iroquois West, the runner-up finish builds momentum as the season progresses, while Milford and Watseka will look to tighten their lineups. Donovan and St. Anne continue to develop their young talent. Thursday’s results offer a snapshot of the region’s golf landscape, where every stroke counts and the margin between victory and defeat is razor-thin.
