Wisconsin high school football teams took the field for the opening week of the 2026 season, delivering everything from blowout wins to nail-biting finishes. Among the marquee matchups, Bay Port proved why they are perennial contenders, crushing Middleton 56-15 in a game that was never close. The Pirates unleashed a relentless offensive attack, while their defense held Middleton to just two touchdowns. Appleton North, meanwhile, found themselves in a defensive grind against Mukwonago, escaping with a 10-7 victory. The game was decided late, with North’s defense making a crucial stop in the final minutes to preserve the win.

In a rematch of last year’s season opener, Hamilton once again got the better of Kimberly, this time winning 27-12. The Papermakers struggled to find rhythm against a stout Hamilton defense, while the Chargers capitalized on key turnovers. It marks the second consecutive year Hamilton has handed Kimberly a loss in Week 1, a trend that will surely fuel the Papermakers’ motivation as the season progresses.

Across the state, the scoreboard lit up with lopsided results. De Pere blanked Manitowoc 47-0, showcasing a dominant defensive performance. Chilton edged Crivitz 21-13 in a closely contested battle. Port Edwards racked up 58 points against Princeton-Green Lake, winning 58-6. The Gilman vs. Phillips game ended 57-0, while Glenwood City shut out Eleva-Strum 43-0.

Several games featured close margins. Ripon held off Laconia 16-6, and Highland edged Wisconsin Heights 22-20. Abundant Life-St. Ambrose defeated Oakfield 26-14, while Kenosha St. Joseph beat Shoreland Lutheran 20-7. The night also saw Madison West blank Milwaukee Hamilton 49-0, and Marshall shut out Johnson Creek 36-0.
