The newly crowned WWE Tag Team Champions, Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga of the MFTs, passed their first title test with flying colors on Friday night's SmackDown, defeating the team they dethroned a week earlier: Damian Priest and R-Truth. The match marked the first defense of the championship gold the MFTs captured in a triple threat contest that also included the War Raiders. The action was fast and physical from the opening bell, with both teams looking to prove their dominance. Tama and Priest started the bout, and Priest quickly took control, isolating Tama in the corner before tagging in Truth. The former champions worked well together, sending Talla over the top rope on one side and then Tama on the other. Priest then signaled for Truth to fly over the ropes, and Truth obliged, taking out Tama and sending both men crashing to the floor. The crowd erupted as the momentum shifted. However, the champions regained their footing when Tama caught Truth throat-first on the top rope. From that point, the MFTs dominated, using their size and strength to wear down the challengers. Priest attempted to rally, climbing to the top rope and taking down Talla with a clothesline. He went for a chokeslam, but Talla fought back, hitting a clothesline of his own and stomping on Priest in the corner. Despite the punishment, Priest managed to make the tag to Truth. The energetic veteran unleashed his signature offense: a Five-Knuckle Shuffle and then an Attitude Adjustment on Tama. But just as the referee was counting the pinfall, Talla dove in to break the cover. Priest sent Talla over the ropes again, but Talla countered with a thunderous T-Bomb to the apron. The distraction allowed Tama to nearly roll up Truth, but Truth kicked out. In the end, the MFTs combined for the Red Cross on Truth, driving him into the mat for the decisive pinfall victory. As the winners celebrated, Priest was visibly frustrated, shaking his head and staring at Truth. Yet he still extended a hand and helped his partner to his feet, a gesture that suggested ongoing tension but also a lingering respect. The loss leaves Priest and Truth without a rematch clause, and the MFTs solidify their status as a dominant force in the tag team division. The victory also extends the Tonga family's legacy in WWE, as Tama and Talla continue to carry the banner of their heritage with pride. The SmackDown tag team scene now has a clear target: the MFTs, who have already proven they can handle the pressure of a championship defense.
