MILWAUKEE — Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers' 23-year-old right-hander, put on a power display Friday night, throwing six shutout innings to outduel Atlanta's Chris Sale as Milwaukee edged the Braves 2-1. Misiorowski, now 13-5, struck out six, allowed four hits and two walks, and lowered his ERA to a major-league-best 1.68. His strikeout total climbed to 216, also tops in the majors. He threw 96 pitches, with 32 of them hitting at least 100 mph, including a top velocity of 103.1. He mixed in more sliders than usual, keeping Atlanta's hitters off balance.

Sale, the 2024 Cy Young Award winner and a pitcher Misiorowski has said he admired growing up, matched him through six innings, scattering eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Sale has now allowed three runs or fewer in an MLB-leading 20 consecutive starts. The Brewers got both their runs off him in the third inning. Luis Lara and Jackson Chourio started the frame with consecutive singles, putting runners on the corners. William Contreras then drove in Lara with a base hit up the middle. Andrew Vaughn followed with a fielder's choice that scored Chourio, making it 2-0.

Lara, who went 2-for-3, made a spectacular leaping catch at the center-field wall in the sixth to rob Matt Olson of extra bases. Atlanta finally broke through in the eighth. Michael Harris II delivered a two-out RBI single off the Brewers' bullpen to cut the lead to 2-1. Antonio Senzatela then walked Ozzie Albies to load the bases but got Mauricio Dubón to fly out to right, ending the threat. In the ninth, Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-out single, and pinch runner Lane Thomas stole second. But Trevor Megill struck out Ronald Acuña Jr. to earn his 24th save in 26 opportunities.

The Brewers' victory kept them atop the NL Central, while the Braves remained in first in the NL East. Martín Pérez (8-7, 3.15 ERA) starts for Atlanta on Saturday, opposite Milwaukee's Logan Henderson (7-2, 2.70).
